cctv sNAPSHOT dOCUMENTARY
CCTV is the central, state-run television network in Beijing, and in 2017 they produced a 30-minute short documentary about me as part of a series on notable foreigners living in China. While there are certainly more interesting things that I did on television, this is an informative look into what I was working on, and most importantly it is has subtitles, and sometimes they’re accurate (starts at 00:45).
My Chinese Working Life - Crabbing episode
Another television program I took part in was a series called My Chinese Working Day, and it was one of the only ones that was bilingual and intended for non-Mandarin speakers. This is an episode about catching and eating Hairy Crabs, which are a famous and rather delicious seasonal export from Jiangsu province.
Various articles,happenings, and awards
During my many years in China I had quite a few interesting experiences, and there are certainly awards out there that I don’t remember and articles that I never knew about. Some events do stand out, though. For example, I once performed KuaiBan 快板, a traditional Chinese style of performance art, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing during a large government summit; Chairman Xi was slated to attend, but cancelled at the last minute as talks went long, and I settled for meeting the King of Cambodia along with a few other minor heads of state instead. I also once interviewed DaShan 大山, probably the most famous non-Chinese person in China ever, as part of a television show I co-hosted, and I was fortunate as part of that show and others to travel to a great many interesting places and experience Chinese culture in a way most foreigners do not get to.
